He was born in Ciutadella in 1736.
The son of Gabriel Martorell and Águeda Gomila, he married Antonia Olives y Squella, thus uniting two of the island’s most influential lineages.
Pedro was the younger brother of Gabino Martorell Gomila, to whom King Charles IV, by royal decree of March 1789 and a warrant issued in December 1797, granted the Marquisate of Albranca, with the prior viscountcy of Dayá, in recognition of his collaboration in the recovery of Menorca from the English in 1782.
The marriage of Pedro Martorell Gomila to Antonia Olives Squella confirmed traditional alliances between the noble houses of Ciutadella, strengthening the presence of both surnames in local society, the economy, and the institutions of the city.
Educated in Ciutadella, Pedro Martorell, who lacked the rights inherent to primogeniture and entail, gained access to the salons and events reserved for the Menorcan nobility. His marriage to Antonia Olives y Squella consolidated his social position and allowed him to take part in the management of the family estates, as well as to serve as patron of various parish festivities.
While his elder brother Gabino gained public prominence through the successive offices he held—juror and military adviser, bayle general, mostassaf, and clavario general—Pedro maintained a discreet profile, devoted to the administration of the llocs belonging to the Martorell and Olives families, and to supporting charitable works in Ciutadella.
In the archives of the County of Torre Saura is preserved the power of attorney that, in 1822, Pedro Martorell Gomila granted to the priest Rafael Bru to represent him in the Board of Proprietors of the cavalleries of Menorca.
